As the mom of a nonverbal, 14-year-old autistic son, being told he needed a tooth extraction was terrifying. I immediately began searching for someone experienced with special-needs patients—someone patient, compassionate, understanding, and willing to truly meet my son where he was. Thankfully, God led us to Dr. Goldberg, and I will forever be grateful. ️ From our consultation through the entire procedure, Dr. Goldberg was absolutely amazing. He was kind, patient, informative, and genuinely wonderful with our son. He made us feel heard, reassured, comfortable and supported—and most importantly, he treated our son with the same care and dignity he would give anyone else. I know Dr. Goldberg may not officially be labeled a special-needs or autism-focused pediatric oral surgeon, but I’m sharing our experience in hopes it helps another parent who may be feeling the same fear I felt. If you’re wondering, “Who will understand my child? Who will be patient? Who will truly care?” — I want to say this as loudly as I can: THIS IS THE PLACE. Dr. Goldberg and his amazing team at OOFS made an incredibly stressful situation feel so much easier. They listened, answered every question, took our concerns seriously, and made us feel like we were all on the same team. Dr. Goldberg even checked on our son hours after the procedure, which meant more to me than he’ll ever know. For families with special-needs or autistic children, finding the right doctor is about more than credentials/ reviews. It’s about finding someone who truly sees your child and genuinely cares.
